Description:
Ivanhoe is a not-for-profit, 501 [c] [3} organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Ivanhoe neighborhood --- boundaries 31st Street to Emanuel Cleaver II, Prospect to Paseo. Originally formed in 1967, in the late 1990s, grass root leaders began the current revitalization by closing six drug houses on the 38000 block of Highland.
What we do there:
In 2000, about 100 Ivanhoe residents developed a comprehensive strategic plan with 100 community change initiatives. The change initiatives were assigned to four major committees: 1. Beautification 2. Crime & Safety 3. Housing, Economic Development & Jobs 4. Youth, Family Life & Education ― Committee meetings are attended by a range of 20-25 people each month and the committees are responsible for implementation/revision of the strategic plan. ― Currently, Ivanhoe is pursuing several major development initiatives including home repair and rehab of vacant homes. ― We are in need of students to assist with project development, project planning, and administrative tasks.
